Despite the increasing use of social media and mobile technologies, foreign news on television, which usually represents but a marginal share of the typical newscast, is still of great importance, especially as the world becomes increasingly globalized and interconnected. Accordingly, research on TV foreign news virtually mandates taking on a comparative perspective. Using a start-to-finish approach – from journalists via content to viewers – this paper will present a “mapping sentence” of the field. It will identify and explicate a number of facets relating to the production and consumption of foreign news and offer several research questions and hypotheses derived thereof.
